Pregnancy Week 11 - Baby Can Open Fists & Head Developing

At 11 weeks, your baby is about the size of a fig and can open and close fists. The head makes up about half the body length, but the body is starting to catch up. You are approaching the end of the first trimester, and many women begin to feel relief from early symptoms.

Baby Development This Week

Your baby is becoming more active and can now open and close fists, curl toes, and make sucking movements. The head is about half the body length but is growing more proportionate. Hair follicles are forming on the head. The nasal passages are open, and a tiny tongue is developing in the mouth. The placenta is now fully functioning and will continue to grow throughout pregnancy. Testes or ovaries are developing, though external genitalia are not yet distinguishable.

Changes in Your Body

You are getting close to the end of the first trimester. Some women start feeling more energetic and less nauseous around this time. Your uterus is now about the size of a grapefruit and may be visible above your pubic bone. You might experience heartburn for the first time as hormones relax the valve between your stomach and esophagus. Weight gain may become more noticeable.
