Third Trimester 35 weeks pregnant

Pregnancy Week 35 - Rapid Weight Gain & Kidneys Mature

At 35 weeks, your baby is gaining weight rapidly — about half a pound per week. The kidneys are now fully mature, and the liver is processing waste. Your baby is running out of room in the uterus, and movements may feel different as they stretch and roll rather than kick.

Baby Development This Week

Your baby is gaining weight rapidly, about 8-12 ounces per week. The kidneys are fully mature and processing waste efficiently. The liver is beginning to process some waste products. Most babies are now in the head-down position for birth, though some may still turn. The arms and legs are getting chubby, and the skin is smooth and pink. Your baby's brain is still developing rapidly and will continue to grow for years after birth.

Changes in Your Body

You may be feeling very tired and uncomfortable at this stage. The top of your uterus is about 6 inches above your belly button. You will likely have your Group B Strep test around this time. Your healthcare provider may start checking your cervix for signs of effacement and dilation. You might notice increasing Braxton Hicks contractions. Some women lose their mucous plug in the weeks before labor. Sleeping is increasingly difficult, and you may need to use multiple pillows for support.
